The pop princess is currently on her California Dreams tour and during a break in sunny Ottawa she decided to have a go at trying out the new planking trend, which is currently taking Twitter and other social media by storm.
The planking phenomenon involves someone lying face down, expressionless, in a strange public place with their hands by their sides and toes pointing to the ground, while someone takes a photo.
The snap would then be posted on social networking sites.

Wearing a skimpy black bikini and a floppy grey summer hat, Katy took to the roof of her luxury yacht to have a go at the trend that, despite apparently originating in 2000, is currently a hot topic online.

But although she may be a platinum-selling singer, she couldn’t quite master the art of planking.
Laying on her front, she had her hands raised in the air – not by her side – and her feet were also raised off the ground.

She had even turned her head to look at the camera and pose – not the done thing. Katy’s blunder didn’t go unnoticed by her hordes of fans, who seemed to take great delight at her faux-pas. One fan said: ‘You’re doing it wrong! Legs and head down, hands by your side!’ Others seemed to think Katy wasn’t even close to getting it right – suggesting it looked more like a Superman pose.
